Angie Spivey, LCSW
I have felt a calling to help others since I was a child. I have twenty years of experience in the mental health field, as a Clinical Director, Clinician, Supervisor, and advocate. The variety of roles and settings have afforded my practice experiences that translate well to the variety of clients I serve. My educational background includes a Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University. I am a lifelong learner and have continued to learn through my years as a therapist. I am certified in Rapid Resolution Therapy through Level 2. I studied psychodrama in graduate school and have continued education in psychodrama, combining it with Internal Family Systems work. I completed Foundations of Internal Family Systems Model through the IFS Institute in 2021 and continue to learn and practice an IFS informed approach. I have many more tools in my therapeutic toolbox to help guide clients based on their individual needs and learning styles. Since I currently work primarily over telehealth, I work with people ages 15 and older and treat a wide range of issues, symptoms, and diagnoses.
My personal journey through a disabling autoimmune condition took me from practice for approximately three years, but led me to integrative and functional medicine. I have incorporated my whole-person approach into my own therapeutic practice and now also consider those dealing with chronic illness part of my expertise in the mental health field. Part of being a helping person is modeling good care of oneself and I have a variety of hobbies and interests that create peace for me in my daily living. Before illness, I enjoyed driving a motorcycle, SCUBA diving around the world, and occasionally jumping out of airplanes. Now I stay grounded by spending time in nature with my loving compassionate husband, and traveling abroad when we can. To stay balanced and continually healing, I practice Zhineng/Wisdom Healing Qigong.
The following quote sums up my approach to working together: "I will not rescue you for you are not powerless. I will not fix you for you are not broken. I will not heal you for I see you in your wholeness. I will walk with you through your darkness as you remember your light".
