Gertie Breffle, LPC

Clinical Psychotherapy

I work with complex and developmental trauma. Elements I work with often are challenges syncing up with others socially, vigilance, shut down and dissociation from mind body, emotions, relationships; challenges with trust in relationships with self and others; challenges with settling self and own body, challenges co-regulating with others, and challenges with feeling fragmented; challenges with feelings of in adequacy and self doubt. I work with experiences of chronic anxiety and panic or fear states. experiences of chronic illness and the trauma, isolation, chaos of emotions and states that can come with it. I work with PTSD and trauma resolution for both traumatic events as well as chronic developmental and complex experiences of trauma, drawing on trauma management skill acquisition, mindfulness and compassion based practices, parts work, EMDR, somatic work mind body processing and practices.

Clinical Supervision

Facilitating the developmental process of self as therapist, clinician, and professional. Sessions take a collaborative approach with inquiry, education, and mentorship in clinical developmental process, clinical skills and frameworks, the intersection of therapist with clinical work, professional role, and intersecting processes. Ethical and legal considerations, diversity and cultural awareness, and skillful navigation of this, and the interweaving of modalities, theories, cutting edge research, and therapeutic process. My therapeutic style and orientation is reflected in supervision style and orientation taking on a person centered approach with an attachment based foundation, along with neuroscience informed lenses, somatic and present oriented exploration. Sessions take a mentor style and structure weaving in experiential education of cultivating self awareness, self inquiry and embodied skillfulness, grounded in presence in showing up for the moment to moment dynamics and needs in the therapy room. I take an emphasis on attachment lens and practice as well as polyvagal theory and skills acquisition, coaching bottom up and top down regulation in regulation practices and processing, mindful self compassion, Buddhist psychology, parts work, and mind body practices. I bring a somatic lens and draw on elements of various somatic traditions and body-mind centering practices. As a couple's therapist and supervisor I am trained in both PACT and Emotionally Focused Therapy and bring the wisdom and skills of both according to the orientation of the clinician and clinical work with clients. I supervise work with families, couples, and individuals with trauma, addictions, life transitions, relationship challenges, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, diversity challenges, and systemic challenges.
